There is a new tech start up in Vancouver, BC that is changing the way you find auto body repairs.
Two young entrepreneurs have created a platform called AutoBuddy. The platform allows drivers to post photos of their damaged vehicle and request price quotes from body shops. Body shops who have signed up with the platform can view these requests and respond to the customer with their price quote. Through the platform the customers can shop and compare between different body shops and decide on where to take their car based off the reviews, ratings, location and any additional information the body shop shares with the customer.
The founders of AutoBuddy, who are former owners of an auto body shop, came up with the idea when they wanted to see how they priced their services compared to other shops in the area. They took their own vehicle they had a scratch on, and drove it from shop to shop asking for estimates pretending to be regular customers.
What they found was shocking! They got estimates from as low as $400 to as high as $1,700 and on top of that they were only able to visit a handful of body shops because of how time consuming it was. As customer driven business owners, they recognized there was a problem that needed to be fixed, which led them to create AutoBuddy.
