New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier suffered a hamstring strain during Monday night's preseason game and will be sidelined for at least 10 days.
Devils coach Lindy Ruff said Thursday that Hischier underwent tests earlier this week and will be re-evaluated in 10 days. Hischier left in the first period against the Montreal Canadiens and didn't play in Tuesday's preseason contest versus the New York Islanders.
Hischier, 23, tallied 60 points (21 goals, 39 assists) - career highs across the board - in 70 games last season.
Ruff also said goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood wasn't feeling well and left Thursday's morning skate. His status for Thursday night's preseason game against the New York Rangers is unclear. Vitek Vanecek will play if Blackwood is unable to go.
The Devils open their season Oct. 13 at Philadelphia.
